Racing: Military Rose quick marches to Victoria

Plans for Queensland filly Military Rose have changed again and she will now head to Melbourne tomorrow for her upcoming spring engagements.

Trainer Gillian Heinrich originally hoped to run the Magic Millions winner in the Golden Rose in Sydney before bad weather forced her to switch her attention to Melbourne.

Last week's wet weather in Queensland disrupted Military Rose's preparation further when barrier trials at the Gold Coast and Doomben were abandoned.

Heinrich was prepared to wait until tomorrow to give Military Rose a jump out on her home track before going interstate but the filly will now head straight to Melbourne without trialling at home.

"She'll go straight to Melbourne on Tuesday night and she'll trial at Caulfield the following week," Heinrich said.

"I wanted to trial her last week at either the Gold Coast or Doomben but we had to find an alternative after they were called off."

Heinrich is excited about Military Rose's prospects for the spring after giving her a week's break following a barrier trial win last month.

"The barrier trial has really brought her into her own," Heinrich said.

"It's done her the world of good, especially after I gave her a week off after it and took her to the beach."

The Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 30 will be the main target for Military Rose.

"No rider has been confirmed yet but Glen Boss has thrown his hat into the ring," Heinrich said.

Stathi Katsidis, who rode Military Rose in the Magic Millions and Golden Slipper and Michael Rodd are the others in contention to partner her in Melbourne.

Rodd won aboard Military Rose when he replaced the suspended Katsidis in the Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in March.

Military Rose will make her spring debut in the Group Two Danehill Stakes at Flemington next month.

The Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 24 and Group Three Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 9 are also on her spring agenda before the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

All four events are run under set weights and penalties conditions and are restricted to 3-year-olds.
