Racing: Maroofity back to form for Awapuni

Maroofity signalled a return to form in tomorrow's Merial Mile when he turned in a sound gallop at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on a good plough with raceday jockey Michael Walker in the saddle, Maroofity was travelling well throughout 1200m in 1:22.8, the 1000m in 1:06.2 and final 600m in 38.4. The class galloper looks fully fit and ready for a big effort at Awapuni on the weekend.

Pirate Dancer (Ormsby), who is likely to start at Awapuni in preference to Taupo, worked well over 1200m in 1:24.5, the last 600m in 38.6. Mighty Troy (Hercock) and Tyson (Cheshire) turned in a sound trial for Taupo when running 1000m in 1:04.8, the final 600m in 37.

Multi Tasker (Collett) prepared for Ellerslie with an attractive gallop over 1200m in 1:23.5, the last 600m in 37.8. Realign (Coleman) was unextended over the same ground in 1:07.3 and 39.2, while Amazing One (Walker) took 1:07.4 and 40.4.

Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Imperial Warrior (P. Brosnan) ran the last 1200m of long work in 1:21.2.

Daktari (Andrew), the sole ballot in the Great Northern Hurdles, worked boldly over two rounds, with his last 1200m taking 1:22.2 and the final 600 rattled off in 36.8.

Kyzeel (Walker) worked evenly over 1200m in 1:17.5, the 600m in 37.4, and Taupo race rival Gold Fantastic (Hattori) took 1:23.7 and 39.8. Kilur (Davidson) prepared for his debut in the Taupo maiden stayers event with 1200m in 1:24.6, the final 600m in 39.

Be Famous (De Klerk) looked sharp for the Ellerslie open sprint when he reeled off 1000m in 1:03.8, the last 600m in 36.2.

Star Alliance (Coleman) took 1:07.2 for 1000m, the last 600 in 40.3, while Captain Kurt (Gorham) clocked 1:06.7 and 38.4.

Good Shot (Hercock) was kept to 1200m in 1:27.4, the last 600 in 39.8.

Kiwi King (Davidson) did similar work to return 1:26.2 and 41.3, while Pinsntonic (T. Harris) was quicker in 1:22 and 37.8.

Hi Yo Wassup (Hillis) had a solid hitout over 1200m in 1:17.8, the 600 in 37.2.

Clean Sweep (Coleman) continued her progress towards next week's Stoney Bridge Stakes with 1200m in 1:19.8 and 600m in 38.

Blue Tsunami (Coleman) showed his usual dash when clocking 1:03.2 for 1000m, the last 600m in 37.4.

Glory Hero (Hattori) finished his work with 800m in 48.5 and the last 600 in 36.6. Sabra (O. Bosson) and Illicitly (Dowling) were more restrained when returning 53.5 and 39.8.

On the all-weather track Taalisman (Gillies) and Jennaeve (Davidson) ran the last 1000m of their work in 1:05, the 600 in 39.4.

* Tantalic galloped very freely at Takanini yesterday in preparation for Ellerslie tomorrow.

Working on a good plough, Tantalic sprinted 1000m in 1:3.7, the last 600 in 37.6. He had been a little scratchy in recent training until this week but seems himself again.

Ocean Rules covered 1200m with Eclipse The Sun in 1:18.5, the last 1000 in 1:3.4 and 600 in 37.9.

She's So Cavalier completed 1000m in 1:5, quickening nicely for the last 600 in 37.6. Trainer David Medcalfe is one of many hoping for some rain.

Expectalite finished 1000m in 1:4.9, the last 600 in 38.6.

Ististar was given a quiet 1000m, taking 1:9.9, the final 600 in 41.1.

So was another McKee runner, Cha Cha, who ran 1000m in 1:10.5, the last 600 in 42.

* Wistleman looks set to continue his consistent formline at Ellerslie this weekend after another encouraging gallop at Cambridge this morning.

Working on a good plough Wistleman was traveling sweetly throughout 1000m in 1.23 sprinting the final 600m in 37.1.

Astire (Hofmann) worked in from the 600m in 38.9. Quest For Cash (Foote) looked in good order when sprinting the final 600m of her work in 38.5. Danz Star (Grifin) worked in from the 600m in 39. Leningrad Cowboy (Leahy) and Flux Cap (Kirsty) were on terms at the end of 800m the final section timed in 40. Rathowen (Calder) strode 1200m in 1.24. the final 600m in 41. Jacquart (Calder) was also sent 1200m run in 1.21.2 the concluding 600m in 39.7.

Pebble Beach covered 1000m at three quarter pace running the final 600m in 44. Cotton Jenney had the better of stablemate Star Jet (Norvel) after 1000m clocked in 1.3 the concluding 600m in 37.3.

Husta La Cio Cio (Calder) worked a comfortable 1000m in 1.9 coming home in 39.8.Call Me Cullan and Seam Of Gold covered 600m in 38.2. Nufsed (Lord) worked 1000m on the sand in 1.5.5 the last 600m in 39.4.
