Jimmy Choux is a likely starter in the group one $300,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Spring Classic, feature race on the third day of the Hawkes Bay spring carnival on October 1.
The 4-year-old's trainer, John Bary, had planned not to run him again until the Cox Plate (2040m)in Melbourne on October 22 but said the horse had done so well since winning at Hastings on Saturday that he would need another race before then.
"He's just done too well," Bary said on Tuesday. "If you'd seen him in his paddock on Monday it was quite unbelievable. He was bucking and trying to rip his cover off.
"That race on Saturday has taken nothing out of him at all so we might as well give him another run here, on his home track, where there is no travel involved."
Bary said Jimmy Choux was now booked on a flight to Melbourne on October 8 and would be based at Flemington.
"If we run here that still gives us three weeks before the Cox Plate," he added.
"He can fly over and have a run along at Moonee Valley and then a gallop at the Breakfast With The Stars Session there to give him another look at the track before raceday."
Jimmy Choux made an outstanding return to form in Saturday's group one Windsor Park Plate (1600m) at Hastings and will now step up to 2040m in the Spring Classic.
