Racing: Hurt hoop wins feature at Te Rapa

Jason Waddell claimed he wasn't feeling pain after guiding Undisclosed home a narrow winner following a decent home-straight fight in the $25,000 Cardinal Logistics 1400 at Te Rapa yesterday. But you can bet he will be this morning.

A few races earlier Waddell won on first-start maidener Carbide, but crashed heavily when Carbide clipped heels with another runner on pulling up. Waddell's luck wasn't in on where he fell - he landed on the hard surface of the track crossing.

He returned to the jockeys' room with a badly grazed leg.

"It wasn't very comfortable hitting that crossing then having horses gallop over the top of you," he said.

Winning the main race on the programme took away a lot of the pain and encouraged the Cambridge jockey to look ahead.

"I'm looking for a big day tomorrow [at Hastings]."

Undisclosed fought strongly to outfinish the pacemaking Rochallen with stayer Sum Up running a huge race for third fresh from a spell.

A short head back in fourth was favourite Silent Achiever, who would have run easily the fastest last 600m and 400m in the race after being nearly last on the home bend.

"That was a fabulous run," said trainer Roger James. "It was just what I wanted to see. She pulled up big [blowing] for her. Normally she's a very clean-winded horse."

•Apprentice Rory Hutchings will be unable to claim his 1kg allowance after riding his 100th winner at Te Rapa yesterday.

Problem with that is the form guides and newspaper fields have all been published. There needs to be a rule change that apprentices can continue to claim in any races they have been declared for.
