Desert Flight prepared for racing at Thames on Saturday with an impressive workout at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on the plough, which was on the dead side after rain, Desert Flight (Coxon) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:16.2, the final 600m in 37.4. It was good work with a fair
weight up and shows that Desert Flight is ready for the middle-distance of Saturday's Thames Cup.

Racey Stacey (Tynan) was another to turn in good work when she partnered Skara Brae (Rastrick) over 1200m in 1:17.6, the 600 in 37.2. Steel Tycoon (Carmine) went from the 1200m in 1:18.2, picking up Diamond Strike (C. Hain) to run the last 1000m in 1:04.2 and 600 in 37.4.

Roaring Jake (M. Brosnan), an entrant for Woodville on Saturday, ran well over 1000m in 1:05.5 and the final 600m in 37.8. Bayou Belle (M. Innes) caught the eye over 1200m in 1:17.7 and 600 in 37.5.

Everswindell (Ritchie) and Lady Yasmine (Waddell) took time honours with 1000m in 1:03.8 and 600m in 36.6. Adelariva (Carmine) turned in good work when striding over 1200m in 1:22.4, the 600 in 39.2.

Pelagic (T. Thornton) and The Fuzz (C. Lammas) ran their 1000m in 1:05.2 and 600 in 37.5, while Time Spent (Wratten) was kept to 1:11.7 and 42.2. Tabeela (Pender) and The Shoe (Davidson) cut out 1200m in 1:22.2, the last 600 in 38.5.

Ciara (Ritchie) and Young Centaur (Waddell) left 1200m behind in 1:21.8, the 600 in 37.3, while Diamond Princess (Russell) took 1:20 and 37.2 and Get Even (Pender) 1:22 and 38.2.

Romeod (K. Jones) and Tsars Prospect (C. Thornton) worked well over 1000m in 1:05.8, the 600 in 37.4. Classy Belle (C. Lammas) took 1:22.8 for 1200m, the last 600 in 39.2.

Over the same ground Volkrose (Davidson) clocked 1:26.2 and 40.4, Illicitly (Dowling) 1:23.8 and 40, Small Talk (C. Ormsby) 1:28.2 and 43.7, and Licorice (Liu) and Fizz (C. Ormsby) 1:27.8 and 43.2.

Healing Kiss (Ramsay) went evenly over 1200m in 1:23.4, the last 600 in 41.2. Waitui Magic (Rastrick) and Waitui Pearl (Tynan) were never at top over 1000m in 1:12.6, the 600 in 42.5.

Leprechaun (Faltham) and Marmalade Jude (Sliz) went from the 800m in 50.4, the last 600 in 37.6. Toomevara (Waddell) and a Howbaddouwantit filly (Ritchie) ran quietly to 800m in 54.2, sped from the 600m in 37.5. Smartway (Wells) ran her last 600m in 44.6.

On the all-weather track Darley Ball Park (T. Harris) and Patrick Starfish (Mateara) cut out 1000m in 1:04.2, the last 600m in 37.5.

* Le Gold Rays and Our Bee Cee earned a following for Thames on Saturday after returning smart gallops at Pukekohe yesterday.

Working on a good sand and with trainer Cydne Evans aboard, Le Gold Rays sprinted 800m in 49.2, the last 600 in 36.3. She all but deadheated for first in her comeback race at Te Rapa and was allowed plenty of time to recover.

Also on the sand, Super Alloy and Little Jess covered 1000m in 1:4.3, quickening to run the last 800 in 48.4 and 600 in 35.5.

Their maiden stable-mates Kingsinga and Carnegie's Cafe were given the same work and did well to return 1:3.9 for the 1000m, 48.4 for the 800 and 35.8 for the 600.

Jaca Rema also went 1000m, time for the last 600 in 37.3.

Our Bee Cee galloped on a good course proper about 30m out from the nearest markers, running 1000m in 1:3, the last 600 in 38.2, smart times in the circumstances.

Stupendo and Sherileon went 1000m, timed for the final 800 in 49.8 and 600 in 37.8, impressive work.

Sarvon looked to have trained on well when running 1000m in 1:4, the closing 600 in 39.9.

* Sovereign returned the quickest gallop of the morning at Cambridge yesterday. Working on the plough, which was in good order, Sovereign (Callaway) dashed 600m in 36.6. He is holding his condition well.

Nova (Whitworth), who looks an early maiden winner, travelled nicely over l400m in l:40.4, the final 600m in 42.8. Kajema (Walsh) followed closely behind in a similar time.

Spectacular Icon (Johnson) and a Danske gelding (Russell) worked well over 800m in 56.5. Isti On Ice (Gould) had Viaduct Bell (Robson) for a companion over 800m in 53.4. Santrix (Tata) and Matada (Satherley) came to the end of l000m in l:7, the final 600m in 40.6. Van Dyk (medium weight) worked in from the l200m in l:22.6, the last 600m in 42.3. Dun Bromac (medium weight) matched strides with stablemate Reigns And Poors (Houston) over l200m in l:24, the last 600m in 42.

Working on the No l grass, near the outside, recent trials winner Charlie 0'Reilly (Chandler) travelled sweetly alongside Free Sea (Norvall), cutting out 600m in 35.8.

Seachange, preparing for Woodville, galloped on Monday over 600m in a stylish 35.4.
