Kiwi driver Anthony Butt knows he owes punters one as the Interdominions continue at Gloucester Park tonight.

But he would prefer to pay them back with two winners.

The rare Monday night heats of harness racing's annual transtasman grudge match sees Butt driving both New Zealand hopes in the series, Raglan and Auckland Reactor.

Raglan goes into tonight needing a win to stay alive in the series after Butt made a tactical error on Friday night.

He elected to stay in the one-one with a lap to go and never got clear, going to the line hard held in sixth.

With only nine pacers making the A$1 million final on Friday week Raglan can't be unlucky again tonight and Butt promises he won't be.

"It was just one of those things on Friday, I made a decision and it didn't pay off," Butt told the Herald.

"But he won't be unlucky this time. I will be looking to go to the front and stay there."

Raglan has shown increased gate speed this campaign and should be aided by the fact key rival Washakie had a brutally hard run on Friday.

That could see driver John McCarthy driving conservatively and Raglan could steal the victory.

The series had started well for Butt as he produced a perfectly timed drive to get Auckland Reactor home on the first night and the New Zealand glamour horse will be a warm favourite to repeat that in the second of tonight's heat, which is actually run at 12.05am tomorrow.

Auckland Reactor had such a charmed trip on Friday that he only needed to sprint 400m to get past Washakie and that should enable him to handle the three day back-up.

"He came through that race well and recovered very quickly," said Logan Hollis, who is looking after Auckland Reactor for trainer Mark Purdon.

"He is eating and drinking well and initially I was concerned by how he would handle the series but I am not worried any more.

"He is spot on and I can see him winning again."

While he couldn't do much more than win on Friday, Auckland Reactor still has plenty of doubters over his chances in the series, who cite the fact he had a perfect trip and wasn't dynamic in victory.

Another win tonight would silence many of those in a tricky race where he meets Mr Feelgood and local flyer Has The Answers.

Mr Feelgood has looked jaded during this extended Perth campaign but will have pull-up blinds added to his gear tonight.

"I think he will improve on Friday's run because he was a bit bigger in condition than usual," said driver John McCarthy. "He will need to though because if he doesn't get good points this time we are in trouble."

Tonight's two later heats, which will be run when most New Zealand punters are asleep, will be dominated by series favourites Smoken Up and I'm Themightyquinn.

Both were impressive winning on Friday night -Smoken Up with his strength and I'm Themightyquinn with his brilliance.

They are being kept apart in the heats and should go into next week's final unbeaten in the series.
