Racing: British Ensign works well for Tauranga mission

British Ensign and Winsome Kash signalled their prospects for Tauranga when they worked well at Matamata yesterday.

Galloping on a good plough, British Ensign (Rastrick) and Winsome Kash (Tynan) left 1200m behind in 1:23.4, quickening as they went to run the last 1000m in 1:07 and the 600m in 37.5.
British Ensign finished only fourth when favourite at his last start but is worth another chance in the Tauranga Stakes, while Winsome Kash is worth a look fresh-up in the maiden 1300m event.

Arniston (Ritchie), a runner in the R76 1600m at Tauranga, caught the eye with a smart 1000m in 1:04.2, the final 600m in 36. Distinctly Secret (Tan) was in dashing style over 1200m in 1:14.6, the final 600m in 34.8.

Weekend race rival Kainui Belle (C. Lammas), was unextended over the same ground in 1:19.8 and 38.8, while Ciara (Ritchie) ran from the 800m in 52.2 and the 600 in 37.4 and stablemate Pulborough (Moody) clocked 48.8 and 36.

Seventh Heaven (Dowling) looked well when striding over 1200m in 1:18.6, the 600 in 37.5. Delbury (Sapsworth) ran the same trip in 1:18.2 and 37, while Genghis (T. Thornton) took 1:14 and 36.5, and Cool Talk (Rastrick) 1:18 and 36.8.

Illicitly (Dowling) did sound work over 1200m in 1:18.4, the 600 in 37.3. Princess Zabeel (Pender) got through an easy 1200m in 1:22.2, the 600 in 41, Bellevue Lass (Dowling) took 1:20.8 and 37.5, and Zergar (Davidson) 1:21.9 and 37.4.

Recent two-year-old winner Squall (T. Harris) showed her style over 1000m in 1:03.3, the 600 in 36.6. She runs next on Counties Cup day. Te Awamutu candidate Bashful (M. Innes) covered 1000m in 1:072, the 600 in 37.4. Bellatrix (Liu) ran the same distance in 1:11.2, quickening from the 600m in 37.

Paeroa winner Lady Lip (Verry) was allowed a comfortable 1200m in 1:24.3, the last 600 in 37.8. Upsetthym (Sliz) ran her 1200m in 1:19.2, the 600 in 38.9.

* Black Panther was impressive in training for Tauranga at Pukekohe yesterday.

Working on the all-weather sand, Black Panther covered 1200m effortlessly in 1:16.2, the last 600 in 37.5.

Sideto Emdeca paceworked for a round and a half and then sprinted 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 37.8. She could give the Collett-Hapeta stable its second success for the week tomorrow.

Filante Etoile galloped 1200m in 1:17.9, the final 600 in 38.2.

Stablemate and race rival Sedecrem was not timed for his 1200m but rider Danielle Johnson told trainer Richard Yuill the gelding had worked most satisfactorily.

Joyful Life finished 1000m in 1:5, the last 600 in 41. Ala Moana ran his 1000m in 1:4.8, the last 600 in 38.5.

The Russell Cameron runner Mr Jenky was given a very quiet 1000m, taking 1:14.4, the last 600 in 45.2. Marea showed her customary dash to run 800m in 49.6, the last 600 in 36.

* Magnetism showed his readiness for Tauranga with a smart workout at Cambridge yesterday morning.

Galloping on the outside of a firm No 2 grass Magnetism hit out strongly over 1000m in 1.5.4 sprinting the final 600m in 37.3. Leningrad Cowboy (Richards) completed 1000m in 1.9 with the concluding 600m in 37.1 the quickest section of the session.

Orpington (Leahy) looked well when covering 800m in 51. the last 600m in 38.2. Myriad (Whitworth) was untroubled when working in from the 600m in 40. She is in good order for her fresh up run at Tauranga this weekend.

Cypress Point (Weedon) left 1000m behind in 1.22.2 the concluding 600m in 41.

Bridie Belle (Wood) and Swordsman (Clarke) matched strides over 800m in 51.8 the 600m in 38. Gorgeous George (Peters) worked in from the 1200m in 1.26. finishing off in 42.4.

Second Edition (Treymane) who makes her debut at Tauranga this weekend worked nicely over 1000m in 1.3.6 the last section in 38.1.
