Racing: Avondale meet is abandoned

The Avondale Jockey Club (AJC) meeting in Auckland today has been abandoned due to unsafe track conditions.

The decision was made yesterday following an inspection of the course.

AJC secretary Jim Patterson said a particular area of the track, on the turn into the back straight from the 1350m mark to the 1250m mark, was the concern.

It presented "areas so soft that racing on was not an option in the interest of the safety of riders and horses".
