Racing: Avondale acceptors look good

Abbey Grace looked in good shape for racing at Avondale on Saturday while training in soft ground at Pukekohe yesterday.

Over 800m Abbey Grace returned a smart 49, the last 600 in 37.6. Open sprinter Unavailable also returned 49 for 800, the 600 in 38.7.

Stablemates Cheeko, Gencay and Meteorite all looked in good nick for Avondale when running 1000m in 1:4.9, the 800 in 51.9 and 600 in 39.

He's Standing did an easy 800m in 55.2, the 600 in 37.4. Bernaust covered 800 on the sand comfortably in 54.3, the 600 in 38.7.

Palliate worked in improved style for Avondale on a fast all-weather track at Matamata, covering 1200m with Torvill in 1:15, the 1000 in 1:1 and 600 in 36.

Classic Fortune strode freely once round, the last 1200m in 1:20.6 and 600 in 37.6. Royal Windsor ran 1000 in 1:4, the 600 in 36.

Santastic took 1:9 for 1000m, the 600 in 39.5. On The Wood left 1000 behind in 1:6, the 600 in 36.5.

On an easy course proper, 20m out, Dundeal ran an even 1200m in 1:21.4, the 600 in 40.

Prince William, a hurdles candidate for Hastings on Saturday, completed 1200m on a good plough in 1:18.4, the 600 in 36.4. Race rival Esprit Du Nord went 1200 with Northern Defence in 1:21.2, the 600 in 37.5.

Alyeska looked improved while running 1200m with Roman Tuscany in 1:19.8, the 600 in 38.5. He's Our Man shaded Lapstone after 1200 in 1:22.2, the 600 in 39.8.

Clarify hit out impressively with trainer Kevin Smith up on a soft No 1 grass at Takanini to cut out 1200m in 1:21, the 600 in 41.

Plain Jill shaped well for one of her class to run 1000m in 1:5.7, the 600 in 39.9. Southern Hills ran 1000 in 1:5.3, the 600 in 39.4.

Gold Sign looked an improver when galloping 1200m in 1:21.9, the 600 in 40.3. Tilga was running on well at the finish of 1000 in 1:7, the 600 in 39.7.

Jayville Blues was too quick for Nun's Chorus over 1000m in 1:6.6, the 600 in 41.4.

Go Bobby Go worked attractively on an easy No 1 grass at Te Awamutu to return 1:3.4 for 1000m and 38.1 from the 600.

He's Just A Sweetie, who is in the Duke Of Gloucester Cup at Hastings, and Just Arrogant ran 1000m in 1:3.9, the 600 in 38.4. The Warrior and Florentine took 1:4.9 for their 1000, the 600 in 39.4.

On a good sand Schmooze ran an easy 600m in 40.5.

At Cambridge, Star Angel showed she was ready for a return to racing when running 1000m on a soft No 2 grass, 6m out, in 1:4, the 600 in 39.4.

Fendahl, who races at Avondale, hit out well once round with Stylish Bee, the final 1200m in 1:21 and 600 in 39. Golden Flare ran 800 twice, in 59 and 56.

Castlecoole looked the fittest of several local candidates for Avondale, running 1000m with Oyster Bay on the outside of a soft course proper in 1:6.5. He came from the 600 hard on the bit in 38.5.
