Five jockeys and their horses have narrowly escaped serious injury after a horrific mass fall during a race that only seven riders ended up finishing.
During a race at the Mudgee Cup on Friday, held in central-west NSW, Devilgate Road ridden by Aaron Bullock appeared to catch the heels ofthe leader which sent him flying off his horse.
Terrifying footage of the event shows a number of horses sprawled on the turf, their jockeys flung from atop them while others fled from the race.
The domino effect saw jockeys Jay Ford riding Are You Sure, Kody Nestor on Scottish Border, Greg Ryan atop Sooner Or Later and Glenn Lynch on his horse Goldstone tumbling down, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
No horses nor riders were seriously injured, however four jockeys were taken to hospital for various injuries.
Kody Nester was flown to Orange Hospital with a suspected leg and shoulder injury, and was suspected to have suffered the worst from the fall.
Greg Ryan, Glenn Lynch and Aaron Bullock were all taken to Mudgee Hospital with a mild concussion, facial injuries, and a hurt should and mild concussion respectively.
Jay Ford reportedly broke his hand, and all horses were cleared of having any life-threatening injuries.
