'Get over it, boo hoo': Gloating punter sends a scathing letter and tissues to horse trainer after he cried on TV when his prized horse lost

A punter has sent a scathing letter to a horse trainer after he cried when his stallion narrowly missed winning a tight Group 1 race.

New Zealand man Bryce Heys teared up in an emotional interview earlier this month after his horse Speith was edged out of first place by Malaguerra at the Darley Classic at Flemington, Melbourne, the Daily Mail reported.

Weeks later, a punter mailed him a letter to say "get over it" along with some free tissues.

"Bryce, so I was listening to your interview the other day," the letter reads.

"Oh you poor thing. I've included some tissues for you, cry baby.

"You've been training for 18 months... Bloody hell, most trainers go through their entire life without a Group 1 let alone 18 months.

"Get over it. Boo hoo. I backed Malaguerra - haha."

Mr Heys, who trains at Warwick Farm in Sydney, posted a picture of the letter and tissues to Twitter this week.

"I have copped plenty but this effort is up there," Mr Heys wrote with laughing emojis, and hashtags "old news" and "cheers for the free tissue".

In the emotional interview at Flemington Racecourse, Mr Heys said the race was the one that got away.

"I just don't get these opportunities. It's only my second season training," he said through tears.

"I'm just really proud of him."

He said Speith was a "high-quality colt" and would "have his day in the sun".
