Race with a legend at Ironman 70.3 Taupo

Organisers of the IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo event in December are offering Tri Clubs around New Zealand the chance to have two of their club members race alongside IRONMAN legend Cameron Brown.

The December 9 event is the perfect start to the season for many athletes, especially those aiming up at the full IRONMAN New Zealand event at the same location in March, but it is also a chance for many athletes to ease into their summer by racing in the team category, with three athletes sharing the three disciplines on race day.

Event Director Wayne Reardon described the opportunity to race with Brown and pick his brains as the stuff of dreams for club triathletes.

"Cameron is an amazing athlete, he just keeps turning in incredible performances and is showing no signs of letting father time slow him down. He is also an amazing person and has pledged to share his knowledge of the sport, training and how to manage a race day with his new team mates - it is truly a money cant buy experience and one that will ensure bragging rights for a long, long time for the lucky athletes, and their club."

While it is two individuals who will race with Cameron on the day, it is the Tri Clubs that can earn that prize. The affiliated IRONMAN approved Tri Club that has the most athletes registered for Taupo 70.3 will win the services of Cameron Brown as a swimmer in a team, as well as a VIP tent location at the finish line, for all their members to enjoy on the day.

Brown is delighted to be a part of the promotion and give something back to the triathlon community.

"When IRONMAN came to me with this idea, I jumped at the chance to be involved. The racing on the day is just part of it, but the chance for me to share the experience with two age group athletes and enjoy the day with their Tri Club is a fantastic idea.

"I hope I can help inspire a few people to get to the start line and offer them some advice along the way and on the day. The Taupo community is a wonderful supporter of both IRONMAN events and multi-sport in general, and I am delighted to give a little back."

There are prizes for the second and third ranked clubs as well, with all registrations up to and including November 21st counted towards the competition. IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo will update the leaderboard on the IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo Facebook page each week.

IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo is on Saturday December 9, and offers competitors the opportunity to race as individuals, or in teams (of 2 or 3 people). The event acts as a qualifier for the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships, with 30 spots to be won on December 9.

The TriClub with the most registered athletes will win the services of professional triathlete Cameron Brown for the swim leg of their relay team.

How to Win

Be affiliated with an IRONMAN approved TriClub and register for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo before 21st November 2017. Keep an eye out for the TriClub Leaderboard every Thursday on our event Facebook page (CLICK HERE) page to see where your TriClub ranks. The TriClub with the most registered participants will receive the grand prize. The TriClub's with the 2nd and 3rd most registered participants will receive the subsequent 2nd and 3rd place prizes.
