After catching the ball, Hartley threw his hands up in the air as the stadium cheered, all while baby Issac continued to such on his bottle, completely unaware.
While the play was certainly entertaining for those gathered at Wrigley Tuesday night, it didn't spell well for Hartley's team.
Hartley's snag was ruled fan interference, bringing the inning to a close with another out for the Cubs. However, the Cubs did end up winning the game 0-1.
Hartley, who works at a financial firm, says he got the tickets as a gift from a co-worker and that he and his wife were a bit wary of bringing a baby to a baseball game.
'I'm just trying to protect him first,' Hartley told the Chicago Tribune. 'We have the seating configuration so my two friends were closer to the ball if a sharp foul ball came. We'd all kind of stand up and make a wall.'
The fly ball happened when his friends were away from their seats, so Hartley said he knew he had to grab it himself.
However, he says he wasn't too worried because he's no stranger to baseball and the ball wasn't travelling very fast.
While Hartley was confident in his reaction, wife Kari admits she was 'a little bit nervous' when she saw the ball coming their way.
'I was a little bit scared that he was going to drop him,' she said. 'Fortunately he held on tight to both the ball and Isaac.'
Hartley says this is the first time he has caught a ball during a baseball game.
