Pit stop: Franchitti out of hospital

Scott Dixon's teammate Dario Franchitti had a second operation on his right ankle earlier in the week and has been released from hospital. The Scot broke two vertebrae, two ribs and an ankle in a massive final-lap collision at the Houston IndyCar race.

Cassidy to drive F3 for Carlin

New Zealand Grand Prix winner and Toyota Racing Series champion Nick Cassidy has a seat for this weekend's European Formula Three race at Hockenheim. The Kiwi has been called up to stand in for Daniil Kvyat at the Carlin team for the last race of the season.

Holzheimer in coma after crash

The driver of the Porsche that crashed killing Sean Edwards at Queensland Raceway, Will Holzheimer, is in an induced coma at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he is being treated for multiple fractures, including two broken legs and a broken right arm.
