Olympic gold medal winners Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindells said after their victory that they had not felt under pressure to deliver.
The twins were clear favourites to win the women's double sculls event having not lost in almost three years.
Their medals are New Zealand's first at the Games after a week
of events.
The Evers-Swindells struggled to describe the describe the sensation they felt as they crossed the finish line.
"It was just really satisfying for all the work we've put in," Caroline said.
The expectations from home to deliver New Zealand's first medal hadn't weighed heavily, Georgina added.
"We didn't notice the outside pressure," she said.
"We always have high expectations but most of it was the pressure we put on ourselves, we always have high expectations."
