United States' Michael Phelps laughs after he was awarded the gold medal during the medal ceremony for the men's 200-meter butterfly final during the swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics,
After winning his 20th and 21st Olympic gold medals, Michael Phelps has equalled another country's total medal haul.
Phelps won the 200m butterfly and was part of the USA's victorious 4 x 200m freestyle team.
He was already ahead of the total tallies of countries including Argentina, Jamaica, North Korea
and Mexico.
Today's double gold brings him alongside Ethiopa.
He has three more events and victories in those would give him 24 golds, one more than the total achieved in Olympic history by Brazil and South Africa.
