Today marks a year to go before the start of the Rio Olympic Games and to kick off the countdown the Herald is running a five part series.
Day one: Spotlight on the athletes We talk to four athletics from three sports who have different paths to reach the RioOlympics.
Day two: Tomorrow New Zealand's Olympic landscape - How the country is looking in each sport. David Leggat runs through all the sports New Zealand will be competing in at the Rio Olympics at where they are tracking. How many athletes are likely to attend? What are their chances of medalling?
Day three: Friday Are we going to have a rowing eight once again? David Leggat looks into the chances of New Zealand having an entry in the blue riband event which means a lot to the country after the gold medal performance in 1972. Early signs are promising but the clock is ticking.
Day four: Saturday: The cost of a medal. We break down SPARC/Sport NZ spending on each sport since the disastrous Sydney 2000 Olympics and see which sports have won the cost-benefits race and which are being lapped.
Day five: Sunday: Is Rio ready? We all know about what's lurking in the water, but what about the other aspects of Rio's readiness?
