Kiwi fans watching the tense women's hockey match between New Zealand and Germany were left hanging after Prime switched its coverage from the live game to the canoe sprint in its final minute.
Many disgruntled viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustration at not being able to see whether
the Black Sticks had qualified through to the medal round for the first time in history.
The team drew 0-0 but the channel cut to the men's canoe sprint before the final whistle.
Brenda Pilorr said: "Nice one Prime. We didn't want to see the last minute of an incredibly tense hockey match. Class act."
The gaffe follows critisism of Prime's delayed opening ceremony coverage as it cut to ad breaks.
