NFL: Quiet outing for Jarryd Hayne

Jarryd Hayne has had a quiet game in his third preseason hit-out as the San Francisco 49ers were defeated 19-12 by the Denver Broncos today.

Hayne had two rushes for no gain, but had an 18-yard reception and a 12 yard punt return after entering in the second half.

The former NRL star also had two kickoffs sail over his head out of the in-goal, and two passes to him from back-up quarterback Blaine Gabbert ended up off the mark.

The 49ers take on the San Diego Chargers in their final pre-season game next week, after which their roster will be cut to 53 players before their NFL season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Hayne is predicted to make the 49ers roster and function primarily as a punt returner.
