A New Zealand cyclist who appealed her exclusion for this month's Road World Championships in Austria has withdrawn from selection just a few days after Cycling New Zealand added her to the squad.
Sharlotte Lucas has turned down the opportunity to compete in the women's road race because she was unable to meet the costs within such a short window and felt she did not have support from Cycling NZ.
"There is always some costs involved but what is being asked for accommodation is unreasonable to find in such a short time frame for me," Lucas told Stuff.
"I don't feel I have the backing of Cycling New Zealand. The selection letter says they have a continued degree of reservation regarding my preparedness and I still have not met the selection regulations and to top it off I can pay for myself.
"I still don't think they want me there and I'm not sure of the reason I'm now selected as I've said nobody has spoken to me, the whole thing has been strange."
