For the first time in years, the names Hayne, Morris and Ferguson were absent when the New South Wales State of Origin squad was announced.

Coach Brad Fittler has elected to blood new talent this year, rewarding players for their performances in the NRL this season rather than simply selecting incumbents.

Four new faces will grace the backline in the form of wingers Josh Addo-Carr and Tom Trbojevic, and centres Latrell Mitchell and James Roberts.

James Tedesco holds on to the No.1 jersey he claimed last year, while Penrith prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard has ousted incumbent Aaron Woods in the No.8 jersey.

Penrith were one of two sides heavily represented in the squad. Alongside Campbell-Gillard, halves Nathan Cleary and James Maloney, and utility Tyrone Peachey were also selected.

St. George Illawarra had three players selected - forwards Jack de Belin, Paul Vaughan, Tyson Frizzel, while fellow forward Tariq Sims was included in the squad as 19th man.

Sydney Roosters second rower Boyd Cordner retains the captaincy.

The opening game of the series was set to be held in Melbourne on June 6.
