Kieran Foran is doing his bit to help the Warriors but Stephen Kearney's side aren't doing enough to help themselves.
Foran's best efforts weren't enough to snap the side out of an alarming second-half slumber that saw them run down 36-28 in spectacular style by a struggling Penrith outfit on Saturday.
In his first outing since his move from the Warriors to join Canterbury next season was confirmed last week, Foran looked determined to lead them to their first away win of the season, turning in a commanding first half performance that had them on course for victory.
The Kiwis five-eighth scored the first try of the game and played a hand in three more - one coming from a 40/20 kick before he grubbered through for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's second four-pointer at the end of the next set.
Foran was leading by example, defending strongly and playing tough. He even seemed a bit angry after crossing for his try and wasn't too interested in high-fiving his teammates - perhaps disgusted by a wild pass earlier in the movement which had threatened to ruin their last tackle play.
The nerve of the man! Who does he think he is? Waltzing in for one season with grand ideas of success and looking to transform them into a consistent outfit.
His teammates, seemingly miffed by his obsession with winning, appeared intent on proving him wrong following the halftime break, determined to hang on to traditions of putting themselves under pressure and throwing results away. The only other notable positives to come out of the match was an enthusiastic effort from front-rower Ben Matulino and Nicoll-Klokstad's assured performance in his second NRL game.
We will see in the coming weeks whether the embarrassing defeat causes their collective confidence to plummet or drives them to improve.
One player can only do so much but the rest of the side needs to heed the lessons Foran is trying to impart and they need to do it quickly before they find themselves out of the finals race.
If this is how they're going with him on board try and imagine what they'll look like once he's gone.
