Being a fan of either the Blues or the Warriors has been tough in recent years with both sides having gone five seasons without making their competition's respective playoffs.

Spare a thought for those who support both teams who've had to endure twice as much disappointment on a frequent basis.

But yesterday provided a double celebration with the Warriors edging the Roosters and the Blues beating the Brumbies in Canberra.

It was the first time since April 16 last year that the two Auckland sides won on the same day.

On that occasion the two sides actually played at the same time, when the Blues beat the Sharks 23-18 and the Warriors toppled the Bulldogs 24-20 in Wellington.

The two franchises failed to win on the same day in 2015 with the previous other time it happened was Anzac Day 2014 (Warriors beat the Storm and the Blues beat the Waratahs).

Mark down May 19 on the calendar. The Blues take on the Stormers in Cape Town while the Warriors head down to road to Hamilton to take on the Dragons.
