Yamaha off-season recruit Maverick Vinales finished on top at the MotoGP official pre-season test in Sepang.

During a rain-affected final day at the Malaysian track the Spaniard recorded a lap of 1:59.37s. That proved to be .13s clear of world champion Marc Marquez on his Honda.

Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso was third fastest with Honda's Dani Pedrosa fourth, veteran Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi fifth and Ducati riders Alvaro Bautista and Casey Stoner six and seventh respectively.

Star Ducati recruit Jorge Lorenzo was ninth fastest as he comes to grips with his new machine.

Pre-season testing continues in a fortnight at Phillip Island in Australia before the first round in Qatar in late March.
