It's not often that it is Sonny Bill Williams who is intimidated and shyly seeks out a selfie.

But it has happened in Rio where the cross-codes superstar leapt on a chance to get a picture alongside arguably the most famous sports star in the world.

Williams saw Usain Bolt while in the Olympic Games village and moved as quickly as he does on the rugby field to gain his chance for a meet and greet.

The Olympic sprinting champion and world record holder duly obliged and Williams immediately tweeted the shot.

"Spoke rugby with the fastest man on earth @usainbolt Good luck my bro," Williams wrote.

Bolt is in his third Olympics while Williams is at his first.

The Kiwi ace has been very active around selfies.

He has already bagged shots with Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal and world 400m track and field champ Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa.

Williams joked that Nadal asked him for the shot.

Williams and his New Zealand Sevens rugby team-mates also met American swim ace Michael Phelps earlier in the week.
