New Zealand wicketkeeper and key batsman Brendon McCullum is in doubt for tomorrow's second one-day cricket international against India in Wellington, after reinjuring a thumb during the series opener in Napier on Tuesday night.

McCullum has a badly bruised thumb on his right hand, sustained when he gloved a ball from medium pacer Grant Elliott at McLean Park.

The New Zealand vice-captain has previously broken the thumb and was experiencing discomfort during the game, which New Zealand lost by 53 runs.

He will bat in the nets today but will not keep wicket in the match.

Northern Districts wicketkeeper Pater McGlashan will replace him behind the stumps.

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was hopeful McCullum would be able to be solely as a batsman.
