Netball: Ferns still striving for perfection despite big win

The Silver Ferns may have trounced the Welsh but assistant coach Leigh Gibbs said there is still work to be done.

"Yes the win was nice but at times the game got away from us," Gibbs said.

She said the Ferns showed a great range of skills and she was pleased with the performance of the different combinations used.

The Ferns showed blistering confidence, scoring goals seemingly at will during their 86 - 24 win at the World champs this afternoon.

"There are also areas we need to work on but it was good to see the players trying things," said Gibbs.

Silver Ferns defender Sheryl Scanlan said the team started well and the game had been exciting.

"We don't want to let our standards down and it was a step up from yesterday," Scanlan said.

Wales coach Denise Ellis said for many of her players, this afternoon's game will have been their biggest yet.

"We've learned a lot from the game and we'll take away a lot," Ellis said.

She said despite the scoreboard, the result is better than the last time the two teams played each hother.

"Wales as a nation never lose heart but there will be some players who are disapointed. They never give up," Ellis said.
