Netball: Mainland Tactix and Southern Steel soar in Super Club competition

The Mainland Tactix have set the standard in the Super Club Netball Competition.

After claiming the biggest score difference on Sunday night over Singapore's Sneakers, the Tactix surged ahead to claim a decisive 64-36 victory over South Africa's Gauteng Jaguars.

The Tactix midcourt played with speed and agility, while their Jane Watson-led defence force shut down the Jaguars' opportunities to score.

Meanwhile, shooter Brooke Leaver secured the side valuable two-point goals while Ellie Bird's towering presence proved too much for the Jaguars' defenders.

Shortly after the Mainland side's win, the Steel followed suit with an equally impressive 80-52 win over Singapore's Sneakers club to bounce back from a disappointing start to the tournament.

The Steel suffered a shock loss to the Jaguars on Sunday in what was considered one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history. Determined to make a resounding comeback, the ANZ Premiership champions returned to the court with flair and confidence.

Steel shooter Jen O'Connell led her side with a solid opening quarter performance before up-coming goal shoot Georgia Heffernan, who was an official training partner throughout the Steel's Premiership season, was given an opportunity to prove her skill.

In a bid to catch the front-running Steel, Sneakers shooter Pei Ying Wong showed impressive form from the two-point circle. But with Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit and Abby Erwood sharing the load at goal defence, the Sneakers' opportunities to score were limited.

The Central Pulse were unable to continue the Kiwi victory-run, however, with a 50-49 loss to Australia's New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS).

After a tightly contested opening quarter, the Pulse slowly fell behind with NSWIS shooter Georgia Marshall proving a tough matchup for defender Sulu Fitzpatrick.

Pocket-rocket Whitney Souness was in sublime form throughout the Pulse midcourt with timely intercepts and speedy play, shooting duo Aliyah Dunn and Ameliaranne Ekenasio often struggled to convert under the pressure of a feisty Australian defence unit.

Despite closing the gap significantly in the second half, the Pulse couldn't quite keep up with the Australian side as they fell to their first loss of the competition.

The Jaguars will tip off day three with a match against the Sneakers before the Pulse play Fiji's Marama Vou.

The Steel and the Tactix will go head-to-head in the final game of tomorrow night's fixtures. The Tactix will be keen to claim redemption after falling short to the Southerners in the ANZ Premiership.
