MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez will miss next week's three-day test at Phillip Island as he continues to recover from a fractured leg.
Repsol Honda said the 21-year-old Spaniard was not fit enough to fly to Australia to participate in the final pre-season sessions, which begin next Monday.
"After acheck-up today with Dr Mir in Barcelona, it was advised that Marc takes this opportunity to rest, rather than risk further injury, in order to prepare for the Qatar GP, which will begin in just three weeks," the team said in a statement on Wednesday.
Marquez, who last year became the youngest rider ever to win the world title and the first rookie in 35 years, broke his fibula during dirt track practice in Spain last week.
The injury kept him out of this week's three-day test in Sepang, Malaysia.
While disappointed to miss the final two pre-season sessions, Marquez said he believed it was the best decision.
"Although (Dr Mir) was happy with the general situation of my leg after only seven days since the accident, he advised against taking unnecessary risk," he said.
"So I will take time to rest and get myself as fit as possible to return to Qatar for the first race in the best shape possible."
