Motorsport: McLaren boss calls for 'racier' reforms

Motor racing One race into Formula One's "greatest-ever" season, changes in the way in which the new regulations operate are already being urged after a processional Bahrain Grand Prix fell to Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and team-mate Felipe Massa and featured few overtaking moves.

The McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, a leading light in the Formula One Teams' Association last night suggested possibilities such as making two pit stops mandatory, or seeking less durable tyre compounds.

"We were one of three teams that said we should have two mandatory pit stops because we were worried about people one-stopping," Whitmarsh said.

"We have to re-examine that. But I think if we can now push on Bridgestone to have 'racier' tyres, we need a super-soft tyre that is really going to hurt if you take it to 20 laps. Formula One has to be entertaining."
