V8 Supercars will hold a championship round in the United States from 2013.

The Australian motorsport championship will be heading to the all-new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for five years.

The circuit will host the United States Formula One grand prix in 2012 and is the first step in V8 Supercar plans to hold six overseas rounds each year.

Currently the Abu Dhabi season-opener is the only round held outside Australia or New Zealand, but various locations such as Qatar, India, South Korea and Singapore have all been explored in the past 12 months.
