"I hope we can carry the momentum we've had here for the rest of the year.
The safety car paid a visit after first Leanne Tander found the wall on the inside of Turn Eight and then Marc Cini ground to a halt on the inside of the last corner.
Not one to be phased, Evans was ready to go when the lights went green again and swiftly pulled a one-second lead over the chasing pack and was never headed until the chequered flag.
"It's never easy and we managed to get a good start again to redeem myself after race one and managed to lead the field into Turn One.
"The safety car shortened the race a bit but I was able to stay ahead and finish the race with a win. It was good to come out swinging at the first race of the season and grab the results we did.
"It's great for McElrea Racing and my engineer Lee and I can't thank them enough for making me look good.
Evans is now preparing for round two of the championship at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne, March 21-24.
