Volkswagen boss Jost Capito has suggested three-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier might quit the sport if existing rally rules continue in 2017.
Current rules dictate the order of cars on stages is determined by championship position. Ogier, who has led the championship from the outset, has been disadvantaged by
being the first car on the road, sweeping the loose gravel off the racing line and providing better grip for the cars to follow.
Ogier, who has dominated the sport since 2013, has not won a rally since Sweden back in February.
There has been a push from the FIA to make the championship leader run at the front on all three days as discussions continue around rules for 2017.
"I think he might retire," Capito told Autosport when asked what he thought Ogier would do if forced to run first throughout each rally.
