He moved up to seventh in the standings as a result.
Techeetah driver Jean-Eric Vergne led home teammate Andre Lotterer in the first ever one-two finish while former champion Sebastien Buemi was third in his Renault.
"It is a historical day for Techeetah with the one-two finish," Vergne said.
"They can be proud of what they have done with our team and hopefully there is much more in our future."
Lotterer made contact with Verge late in the race as the two battled for the lead, which sent panic through the team.
"It is racing at the end of the day but we are mates," Lotterer said. "I had pace in the car and I think he had some radio issues with his car."
Felix Rosenqvist was fourth, handing the lead of the championship over to Vergne, while Piquet Jr dropped to sixth after he went down an escape road in the latter part of the race.
Defending series champion Lucas di Grassi suffered another DNF in his Audi - he is yet to finish a race this season.
The next round of the championship is in Mexico City next month.
