Reigning series champion Marc Marquez topped the timesheets on the opening day of the MotoGP pre-season test at Phillip Island on Wednesday.
The Spaniard banked a time of 1:29.497s on his factory Honda 0.18s faster than Italian Valentino Rossi's Yamaha.
Suzuki rider Andrea Iannone was third fastest while Maverick Vinales
(Yamaha) was fourth and Britain's Cal Crutchlow (Honda) fifth.
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa could manage only the seventh fastest lap on his Honda while countryman Jorge Lorenzo had to settle for 11th on his Ducati.
The test continues until Friday.
