Motorsport: Kiwis starting fourth at Le Mans

Toyota locked out the front row for tomorrow's Le Mans 24 Hour Race with both factory TS050 Hybrid cars setting fast times in qualifying.

Kiwi racers Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber along with their teammate Timo Bernhard will start from fourth position in their Porsche.

Fellow Kiwi Richie Stanaway set a fast time in qualifying in his Aston Martin but was eventually beaten by Darren Turner in the sister car in the GTE Pro category. Scott Dixon will start from fifth in that same class in a Ford.

This year marks the sixth time Hartley has competed at Le Mans and he is dreaming of a maiden victory.

"I'm yet to stand on the top step of the podium and I'm desperate to do that this weekend," Hartley told Radio Sport.

"It is one of the most challenging tracks in the world - especially in the night. You do the full three and half minute lap and I don't think you blink.

"It is still a big challenge and you have this adrenalin rush."

The race gets underway at 5am Sunday and runs for 24 hours.
