Porsche racer and New Zealander Jaxon Evans improved on an impressive start to his 2018 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup championship on Saturday. The young Kiwi finished a solid second in Friday's race and took a step up today to finish race two on top of the podium.
"We had alook at the data last night and I tuned things up to make sure I led the field into turn one this time," said Jaxon.
"After that it went the way we wanted it to. It was still hard as Dave Wall is the champions from last year and was there, or there about pushing me the whole race.
"It was great to pick up more points and I'm looking forward to Sunday's race."
As opposed to Friday's race where he started on pole, Evans made the most of his front row start and moved rapidly into the lead ahead of the rest of the field. Friday's race winner Dale Wood bogged on the line and was subsequently monstered by the rest of the pack.
Over the ensuing laps Evans slowly built a healthy gap over the chasing David Wall and was never really challenged to any degree and crossed the line a comfortable two seconds in front.
"I couldn't relax at all during the race and had to maintain my pace and manage the gap back to second and ultimately came away with the race win.
"If something does happen [safety car] you have to forget about it and keep pushing on. If you over think it, you tend to make mistakes.
"I just kept focused on getting to the end of the race and punching out consistent lap times," he said.
The race was the longest Evans has done in the new car (Friday race shortened due to an incident) this year and he felt comfortable and confident in it. The team will be leaving the car as is for Sunday's final hit out.
