Former F1 driver Lucas di Grassi has won the Formula E world championship for 2016-17 after finishing seventh in this morning's season finale in Montreal.
The Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport driver inherited the championship lead after Renault driver Sebastien Buemi was disqualified from Sunday's race. The Swiss driver had anotherbad run on Monday allowing di Grassi to become the third different winner in the third year of the electric championship.
Brazilian di Grassi was in tears on his in-lap after taking the title.
Kiwi Mitch Evans finished 12th in Monday's race to go with seventh on Sunday to complete his maiden year in the championship.
"Today's race was very eventful," Evans said. "We started in P17 and the race distance was longer by two laps. I'm pleased we made the progress we made. The first stint was tough, going a lap longer but I really enjoyed the race and had some good battles."
"It's been a solid year. It's great to be part of the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team and I'm proud to have played a part in bringing such a famous name back to racing. We have learned a huge amount this year and just being part of this championship has been amazing."
Evans completed the season 14th in the drivers' standings.
His Panasonic Jaguar Racing team will be looking forward to an improved showing when the next season gets underway at Hong Kong in early December.
