Motorsport: Coulthard moves through pack

Fabian Coulthard continued to climb the V8 Supercars championship with solid results at Perth on Sunday. After finishing 15th in Saturday's race the Kiwi qualified in the top six for two Sunday races, finishing fourth and seventh. Coulthard is now seventh in the championship just behind fellow Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen.

"The bigger picture is the championship, so consistency is what we're after," said Coulthard. "From that perspective we did a good job."

Van Gisbergen's weekend unravelled when he was third in race one but dropped back to finish seventh. Race two wasn't much better - 11th - followed by 18th in race three.

"We were really fast, but our car seems to junk on soft tyres at the moment. It's just really slow," said van Gisbergen.

The FPR cars of Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison owned the weekend with Davison taking two wins and Winterbottom a first, second and third.

Jamie Whincup leads the championship from Davison and Winterbottom.

Fourth just fine for flying Van der Drift

Chris van der Drift held on to fourth in the Auto GP championship with a seventh and fifth in Hungary at the weekend.

"I finally got the start I wanted and started to pull away off the line until the engine water temperature overheated and the car went into 'safe mode'," he said. "I lost all power until it had cooled back down again. Despite the problems I am happy to have finished fifth."

Reid wins in Melbourne

After missing the opening round of the Aussie Carrera Cup, Jonny Reid secured backing from Hunter Sports Group to race at Albert Park, where he scored three seconds.

That gave him the round win and moved him up to third in the championship.

"When we went out on to the track on Friday I wasn't happy with the car and it didn't suit my driving style," said Reid.

"The boys worked really hard on my car over the weekend to suit my driving style and it showed in all the races."

Hartley hits the podium at Spa

Murphy Prototype Racing's Kiwi trio - Brendon Hartley, Jody Firth and Warren Hughes - finished third at the weekend's FIA Endurance Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The six-hour race is the final event before the Le Mans 24 Hours of Les Mans.

Hartley was impressed with the way the team fought back from a drive-through penalty. "To make our way through the field like we did shows how impressive the team and the drivers are ... Without the drive-through we could have challenged for the win."

Kiwi duo unlucky

The two Kiwis debuting in the Formula Renault champion at Motorland, Spain - Richie Stanaway in 3.5-litre and Nick Cassidy in the Eurocup 2-litre - had a Saturday to forget.

Stanaway qualified on the second row but stalled when the lights went and was monstered from behind, ending his race.

Qualifying towards the front of the field, Cassidy was caught out in a six-car pileup on the opening lap to end to his first race.

On Sunday Stanaway finished sixth to sit 11th in the series.

Cassidy finished sixth in his second race to sit ninth.
