Motorsport: Andretti tops Dixon in Indy practice

Marco Andretti has set the fastest time in the opening practice session for the Indianapolis 500.

Andretti posted an average speed of 226.338mph on his fastest lap to beat Kiwi Scott Dixon by 1mph.

Dixon set his time without the aid of tow from another car.

Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso was 19th fastest in his debut at Indianapolis.

Englishman Jack Harvey suffered a crash during the session that halted proceedings for a period.

Qualifying for the great race takes place this Sunday and Monday with the race Monday May 29.
