New Zealand's Shane van Gisbergen has given himself the best chance to extend his lead in the Australian Supercars Championship when he grabbed pole for the first of two races at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 later today.
It is an all-Kiwi front row with the Volvo of Scott McLaughlin
alongside the Red Bull Holden for the 300km race.
Van Gisbergen goes into the Gold Coast round - the last of the double-driver endurance series - with a 139 point lead in the championship over his Red Bull teammate Jamie Whincup who starts third on the grid while McLaughlin's teammate James Moffat completes the second row.
Van Gisbergen said he is thrilled with the car this week and while he scalped his door after running too close to the wall, he is looking forward to the race.
"I always knew Scott and Jamie would be up there but the car is fantastic," van Gisbergen said.
