Mitchell Starc gives debutant Mitchell Santner a send-off after dismissal in Adelaide test

Mitchell Starc's send-off to test debutant Mitchell Santner at Adelaide Oval shows some habits die hard.

Brad Haddin has retired as Australia's wicketkeeper.

The lasting memory of Haddin was his grubby conduct during New Zealand's innings at the World Cup final where he was liberal with his advice to the batsmen, notably Grant Elliott, after his valiant 83. Elliott copped a gobfull.

Haddin's gone, but Starc appears to have picked up the mantle.

Having bowled Santner, the ball deflecting onto the stumps from the lefthanders pads, left arm speedster Starc dished out words to the batsman.

With Australia well on top at that point, and New Zealand tumbling to 142 for six on Santner's dismissal, Starc's display was churlish.

It may seem the old ways, but perhaps they don't die; they just get passed down the line.
