Michael Clarke's next career move won't be affected by his upcoming divorce with Kyly Boldy as the former Australian cricket captain prepares to take up a new job in Sydney breakfast radio.

Last week the Daily Telegraph reported Clarke was going to join rugby league legend Laurie Daley in hosting Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast, taking over from broadcasting veteran Terry Kennedy, who stepped down last year.

Clarke confirmed his gig as the show's new co-cost when he posted a picture on Instagram alongside Daley on Thursday afternoon.

"Getting some tips from the great man @laurie_daley6 about how to wake up at 4am," Clarke wrote. "Looking forward to joining @bigsportsbrekky @skyracingau very soon."

Shortly after Clarke's Instagram post went live a media release was issued about the 38-year-old's arrival to the show.

"It's a show that I have always listened to growing up. My father listens every morning. I always stayed across it during my playing days, and I love the fact I have the opportunity to talk about all racing and sports, not just cricket," Clarke said.

"I think the consistency of being on radio Monday to Friday allows the Australian public to get to know me better and the chance to work beside a childhood hero like Laurie Daley, how can you not look forward to that."

The move comes after news broke overnight Clarke and Boldy are divorcing after seven years of marriage and represents the cricketer's return to the Australian media landscape.

He joined the Channel 9 commentary team after his playing days ended but was not wanted by either Channel 7 or Fox Sports when cricket's TV broadcast rights were renegotiated ahead of the 2018/19 summer.

The Australian reported Clarke and Boldy have been separated for the past five months and they confirmed their split late on Wednesday night, while maintaining their desire to co-parent their 4-year-old daughter Kelsey Lee.

"After living apart for some time, we have made the difficult decision to Βseparate as a couple, amicably," a statement from the couple read.

What's next for Kyly Clarke after divorce

15 Feb 05:13 AM

"With the greatest of respect for each other, we've come to the Βmutual conclusion that this is the best course for us to take while committed to the co-parenting of our daughter."

Clarke has reportedly been living at his Bondi apartment for the past several months after moving out of his and Boldy's $12 million Vaucluse home in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Just a week ago, Clarke uploaded a photo to Instagram of himself flying solo at the beachside pad β€” which has since been sold for just over $7 million.

Clarke and Boldy went to school together at Sydney's Westfields Sports High but didn't start dating until many years later, after Clarke's engagement with Lara Worthington (nee Bingle) was broken off in 2010.

Writing about a chance encounter with Boldy in his 2016 book Michael Clarke: My Story, the 115-Test veteran said: "In 2007, before I began dating Lara, I introduced myself to Kyly at a bar in Cronulla. We reconnected over a drink, and as we left, I sent my best mate Steve Phillips to ask for her number.

"She declined, saying I could come and ask myself. Now I was so embarrassed, I decided to leave it to chance, hoping we would bump into each other at another stage."

Fortunately for Clarke, fate came to his rescue three years later. After his and Worthington's relationship ended, Kyly reached out to him on Twitter when he was on tour in the West Indies and the pair started dating soon after.

They got married in 2012 in front of family and close friends and welcomed Kelsey Lee into the world in 2015.

In what was perhaps a telling sign alluding to their split, both Clarke and Boldy uploaded social media posts about their daughter this week that didn't feature the other person.
