But the NSW-based magician, who does not wish to be named, pulled off an even bigger win to kick off the New Year after the stars yet again aligned in his favour.
In another NBA same-game multi bet, the lucky man was able to snag $10,004 from a $4 wager after successfully picking 11 legs (shown below).
The 34-year-old said he was on holiday in New Zealand at the time and didn't have the opportunity to hyperventilate near a TV while his agonisingly narrow multi pulled through.
"I wasn't watching it live — I put it on before I went shopping. I got back and I looked at the bets and I told my girlfriend in the shower we won 10 grand.
"She said 'oh no you didn't'."
The lucky winner admitted most of his strategy was based on luck and said he almost ran out of time before placing the multi.
"I put the bet on literally a minute before the game started," he said.
"No doubt, if I won (on a bet placed) the day before, I would have put 100 on this bet and have been up 250k — it's all luck."
The winning formula, it seems, lies in the sheer volume of bets.
"I average three or four (multis) a day. I put about two or three dollars each, that's about it," he said.
"I generally just do overs (betting on a player score over a certain amount of points.) So I just look at teams and players who are going well, but really it's just pure luck."
