Kiwis in Europe: Waldrom scores again

Thomas Waldrom's tryscoring continues unabated.

The prolific Exeter Chiefs No 8 scored a try as his club beat Newcastle Falcons 32-19 in the latest round of England's Aviva Premiership. Mike Delany kicked three goals from first five for the Falcons.

Mark Sorenson's Bristol lost 9-16 to fellow west country club Bath, while a try to replacement wing Bryce Heem was too late for Worcester to overhaul Northampton, who won a tight contest 18-17. James Wilson and Michael Paterson appeared for the Saints.

Gloucester's 36-18 win over Wasps saw four Kiwis take the field in Willi Heinz, John Afoa, Motu Matu'u and Joe Latta. For Wasps, Jimmy Gopperth kicked three goals from No 12, while Frank Halai and Alapati Leiua came off the bench.

Just three days after pushing the Maori All Blacks, a very different looking Harlequins fell 25-6 at Leicester, Nick Evans kicking the two penalty goals. Outside him was Winston Stanley, while Alofa Alofa and George Naoupu also featured. For the Tigers, lock Mike FitzGerald copped a yellow card, while Jono Kitto and Brendon O'Connor also started.

Leaders Saracens accounted for Sale 28-13. Sam Tuitupou, Bryn Evans, Halani Aulika and TJ Ioane all appeared for the Sharks.

In the French Top 14, Tom Donnelly's Bayonne caused a boilover, edging Luke McAlister's Toulouse 16-13.

Zak Taulafo's Stade Francais beat Montpellier 21-17.

Bordeaux-Begles' ascent continued with a 26-0 shutout of La Rochelle. Simon Hickey kicked five goals for the victors, and loose forwards Luke Braid, Hugh Chalmers and Joe Edwards all featured. Romana Graham, Jason Eaton and Victor Vito played for the visitors.

William Whetton's Brive accounted for Pau 38-25. Chris King scored a try for the latter, while Tom Taylor kicked two goals. Jamie Mackintosh and Daniel Ramsay also started in the Pau pack.

Clermont, with Hosea Gear, Benson Stanley and Fritz Lee (who was sinbinned) in the line-up, edged Lyon 16-13. Ti'i Paulo, Rudi Wulf and Toby Arnold started for Lyon.
David Smith's Castres defeated Ma'a Nonu's Toulon 34-17.

Racing-Metro beat Grenoble 29-24. Starting for the Parisians were Joe Rokocoko and Anthony Tuitavake, while former Waikato No 8 Rory Grice was on the back of the visitors' scrum.

Round nine of both the Aviva Premiership and Guinness PRO12 take place this weekend, while the French Top 14 breaks for a week for the final few days of the November international window.
