David Smith is proving to be good value for his French club Castres after scoring two tries in their 41-7 European Champions Cup victory over Northampton.

The 30-year-old Samoan wing, who should have played international 15s rugby (for Manu Samoa) many moons ago, transferred from Toulon last year.

James Wilson scored Saints' sole try, while Nafi Tuitavake, who will no doubt be happy at his old North Harbour union qualifying for the Mitre 10 Cup Championship final, came off the pine, as did former Steeler Ahsee Tuala.

A hat-trick to wing Stacey Ili helped Connacht to a 52-7 crushing of Zebre. Jake Heenan (7) and Bundee Aki (23) also turned out for Connacht.

Clermont beat Bordeaux-Begles 49-33, former Otago threequarter Jayden Spence featuring for the latter, while Luke Braid and Hugh Chalmers were in the loose trio.
