New Zealanders Terenzo Bozzone and Jo Lawn have finished third in today's Ironman 70.3 Auckland race in hot and still conditions in the city.
Bozzone finished behind Australia-based German Jan Frodeno and Australian Richie Cunningham in the men's race, with Lawn coming in behind Scot Catriona Morrison and Australian AnnabelLuxford in the women's.
Frodeno enjoyed almost the perfect race. He was leading after the 1.9km harbour swim along with fellow early pace-setters James Seear, of Australia and Kiwi Graham O'Grady before being overtaken by American Andrew Yoder on the 90km bike leg which included a Harbour Bridge crossing.
Frodeno settled back into a chasing group of about 10 which included all the main players, and while Bozzone enjoyed an extremely quick second transition to chase Yoder on the 21km run, it was Frodeno who made the big move, outstripping the rest within 5km and never looking threatened.
In the women's race, Morrison overtook defending champion Luxford at about the 15km mark on the run despite a deficit of more than two minutes after the bike leg. A wrong turn by Luxford on the bike leg cost her about a minute - more than her 41-second losing margin and she was frustrated by the mistake.
