Bangladesh quick Rubel Hossain is in doubt for the World Cup after being remanded in custody over allegations he raped an actress. Naznin Akter Happy, 19, has lodged a complaint of rape and a "false promise of marriage" against him. A magistrate in Dhaka has ordered DNA tests for the pair. CD stalwart dies
Longtime Central Districts and New Zealand administrator Basil Netten has died in at Koputaroa, close to Levin. Netten was 75and had been battling cancer for over a year. Netten at one point was CD selection convenor, association chairman and a New Zealand Cricket board member. A farmer, Netten was a staunch advocate for, and promoter of, young CD players of whom the likes of Mathew Sinclair, Jacob Oram, Michael Mason, Glen Sulzberger and Jamie How went on to play for New Zealand. He expected players to give 100 per cent, and if he detected sluggishness was prone to forcibly remind them they could always spend summer at the beach.
