Ice hockey: Blackhawks in quarters

The Chicago Blackhawks scored four goals in the opening period then held on for a 5-3 win over Nashville yesterday to reach the NHL playoff quarter-finals for the second consecutive season.

Jonathan Toews scored on the powerplay in a wild first period as the Blackhawks won the final three games of the series to win 4-2, setting up a second-round matchup with the Vancouver Canucks for the second consecutive year.

Chicago haven't lost a game six in an elimination match since 1995. Nashville have been eliminated in all five of their playoff appearances on home ice.
