Last year: Brandt Snedeker won the event and the FedEx Cup. He earned $11.44 million, receiving $1.44 million for the tournament victory and $10 million for the FedEx Cup title.
Last week: Zach Johnson won the rain-delayed BMW Championship on Monday at Conway Farms, closing with a 6-under 65 for a two-shot victory over Nick Watney. Jim Furyk became the sixth player in US PGA Tour history to shoot 59, accomplishing the feat in the second round.

Notes: The top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings qualified for the season-ending event. ... The top five Tiger Woods is No. 1, followed by Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Johnson and Matt Kuchar can take the $10 million FedEx Cup prize with a victory. The other 25 players have a chance to win the playoff title with a victory, but would need help from the players at the top of the standings. ... Scott opened the four-event playoffs with a victory in The Barclays at Liberty National, and Stenson won the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston. ... Snedeker, 10th in the standings, is the first FedEx Cup champion to return to East Lake the year after winning the points race. ... Last year: Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano won the event for the second time, closing with an 8-under 64 for a two-stroke victory over South Africa's Garth Mulroy. Fernandez-Castano also won in 2007 at Castello di Tolcinasco.

Last week: Joost Luiten won the KLM Open to become the first Dutch winner in the country's national championship since Maarten Lafeber in 2003. Also the Lyoness Open winner in June, Luiten beat Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez with a par on the first hole of a playoff.
Notes: Francesco Molinari and Matteo Manassero top the Italian contingent. Molinari, the 2006 winner at Castello di Tolcinasco, and brother Edoardo grew up playing Golf Club Torino. Edoardo Molinari is sidelined by a left wrist injury. ... Retief Goosen and David Duval are in the field. ... The Alfred Dunhill Links is next week in Scotland.
